ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING
** Twenty-third Report Environmental Planning
launched**

Background to the Study

The Royal Commission has investigated whether present arrangements for environmental planning are capable of achieving environmental policy objectives. This involved looking at the current land use planning system, at other relevant legislation and procedures, and the interactions between them.

The Twenty-third Report Environmental Planning
The Environmental Planning report, published on 21 March 2002, explains how the Royal Commission wants to see

  • a more coherent and effective planning system
  • capable of bringing together economic and social considerations and environmental constrains
  • with strong links between local planning authorities and the specialist agencies responsible for controlling pollution and protecting the natural environment and the built heritage.
