Comments from the Department of Trade and Industry
on the scoping of the Environmental Planning Study

From: Sir Michael Scholar KCB, Permanent Secretary, Department of Trade and Industry, 1 Victoria Street, London   SW1H OET

5 October 1999

I am writing in response to a letter dated 21 July from David Lewis, Secretary to the Commission, inviting views and additions to the list of topics to be covered by the Commission's study on Environmental Planning.

I welcome RCEP's involvement in the important area of Environmental Planning and am grateful for the opportunity to have an input into this study. The scope of the suggested topics already adequately covers the areas of most concern to us, within the broad remit of the study.

I wish the Commission every success with the study and look forward to further involvement in the second phase.
