on the scoping of the Chemicals Study
I refer to your letter of 19 October 2000 announcing arrangements for the preliminary stage in preparation for carrying out the above study; I am sorry that you have not had an earlier response. The Scottish Executive welcomes your proposal to carry out this new study. We are content with the list of broad topics and range of issues which you have identified for investigation; it forms a sound basis for the scoping process. As the public body with responsibility for environmental protection in Scotland, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has already submitted its views on the key issues you propose to investigate in the course of this exercise. For our interests we would endorse the comments made by SEPA. We look forward to receiving your formal invitation to submit written evidence in due course.
