Prepared in April 2000, the report describes a variety of legislative codes for
environmental planning in place eleswhere, and compares their aims and philiosphy with
that in the UK. The study includes consideration of the environmental planning systems
in place in France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden and the Tri-
State area of north-east United States. The report focuses on the principles of the
systems, highlighting lessons that could be learnt from experiences elsewhere.
